bio

Artist/Percussionist Marcus L. Miller formed the group in 2003. The group is based in Southern California, but performs both nationally and internationally. The ensemble features Miller on drums/percussion who is typically accompanied by piano, guitar, bass, and often saxophone or trumpet. Miller has recorded multiple albums with the group for the Universe Soul Records label. Notable highlights include a 2006 support performance for Chris Botti at the Carolina Theater in Durham, a 20 city tour of China with the Lula Washington Dance Theatre (2011), and headlining the 2015 Vladivostock Jazz festival.

Over the years, Miller has featured some of the premiere jazz musicians in Los Angeles on his bandstand and in the studio. The primary soloists have included Bobby Bryant Jr. (alto sax), Kamasi Washington (tenor sax), and Dr. Alphonoso White (trumpet). The rhythm section has featured a myriad of talented players including Harvey Estrada (bass), Nedra Wheeler (bass), Leon Mobley (percussion), Angel Figueroa (percussion), David Leach (percussion), Mahesh Balasooriya (piano), Bobby Pierce (organ/piano), and the late Nate Morgan (piano). The ensemble’s current roster consist of Eric Wilson (saxophones), David Gotler (trumpet), James A. Forbes III (piano/keyboards), Antonio Gardener (guitar), and Edwin Livingston (bass).

Since 2006, the ensemble has performed with the Lula Washington Dance Theatre at a host of venues including the Broad stage (CA), Grand Performances @ Cal Plaza (CA), the Redlands Bowl (CA), the John Anson Ford theater (CA), the Charles & Harriet Luckman Theater (CA), the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CA), the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center (CA), the Attucks Theater (VA), and the Ferguson Center (VA). The two groups have also headlined many concerts and festivals including the San Jose Jazz festival (CA-2012), the Virginia Arts Festival (VA-2009, 2012, 2017), the Lincoln Center out of doors festival (NYC-2006), Manuas dance festival (Brazil-2011), International music & dance festival (China-2011), the International Book Festival in Guadalajara (Mexico-2009), and a 4 night run at the Israeli Opera house (Tel Aviv-2016).
